How it started
Founder Huzan in a Starbucks café in Oslo, teaching students Norwegian around small café tables — where Speak Norsk was born.
Fun fact: Speak Norsk didn’t start in a classroom — it started in a café. When more than 50 students began showing up, Starbucks simply couldn’t fit everyone anymore. That growing crowd made it clear: it was time to open a real school.
In the very beginning, Huzan didn’t have textbooks. Instead, she created her own materials — short articles, dialogues, and explanations tailored to what her students actually needed. This quickly sparked an idea: Why not create books that truly work? Books that are simple, practical, and designed for real-life conversation — the part of the language students struggle with the most.
Today, Speak Norsk has grown into a modern language center at Bygdøy allé 21 in Oslo, with 12+ classes running simultaneously — all rooted in the same vision that began at a small café table: making Norwegian easy to understand, easy to use, and accessible to everyone.

After the initial success of Speak Norsk’s courses, the team kept on growing and now, there are more than 20 passionate and ambitious colleagues and members of the Speak Norsk family. We pride ourselves in always delivering the most high quality courses, professional assistance to students and guidance in their social life here in Norway.
MEET THE TEAM
When Speak Norsk was just starting out, Huzan noticed something missing in the market: fun and effective Norwegian language courses. Seeing her friends and colleagues struggle to find practical, conversation-focused learning options, she decided to step in and fill the gap. With a background in IT, marketing, leadership, and private instruction, Huzan brought Speak Norsk to life. The first classes were cozy meetups in local Oslo cafés, perfect for small group learning.
In no time, Speak Norsk became one of Norway’s top educational institutions, known for its modern approach and innovative materials. Huzan’s unique vision and the development of custom course content and multimedia resources made this rapid growth possible.
Today, Speak Norsk is celebrated for its success, thanks to the impressive achievements of its students.
As a translator and interpreter in five languages, Nicoleta truly gets the challenges of learning a new language. She joined our team with a clear mission: to make the learning journey smoother and more enjoyable for our students.
Nicoleta holds a Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Languages and Pedagogy. She has also taken specialized courses in economics, accounting, law, and leadership. Her diverse professional experience with international companies gives her valuable insights for running a language school.
Since the early days of Speak Norsk, Nicoleta has been dedicated to helping our students seamlessly integrate into Norwegian society. She ensures that every service and product we offer meets high standards, creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment.

Maria is a shining example of dedication within our teaching team, known for building strong, trusting relationships with her students. She leads our online classes, handling everything from standard group sessions and virtual instruction to specialized courses for IT companies.
During the lockdown, Maria became the go-to instructor for our virtual classes. She also works with Johannes on our lively YouTube channel, helping to keep it engaging and relevant.
Maria’s contributions don’t stop there—she’s also a writer for our exam preparation and grammar books. With a unique perspective, she believes that grammar can be fun, and she’s on a mission to prove it.
Maria’s diverse roles make her a key player in creating a comprehensive learning environment at Speak Norsk, where expertise, passion, and innovation come together.
Antje, one of our standout instructors, has earned a ton of 5-star reviews, making her a shining star at Speak Norsk. She joined our team with a clear goal: to help students master Norwegian pronunciation and grammar and keep them on track with their learning.

Known for her boundless positivity and creative teaching methods, Joana makes learning at Speak Norsk a fun and unforgettable experience. She teaches both beginner and intermediate levels and also leads our specialized corporate programs. Joana creates a strong foundation, preparing her students to advance to higher levels with confidence.
Joana mastered Norwegian as a second language at the University of Oslo. She brings her expertise to beginner courses and prepares students for the Norskprøve exam.
Her dedication to her students’ growth and success makes her a key member of the Speak Norsk community.
In the autumn of 2020, David joined Speak Norsk while working towards his second degree in European Languages at the University of Oslo. Since then he has also completed a master’s in linguistics, showcasing his passion for the intricacies of language.
David’s love for languages shines through his keen interest in semantics, syntax, and the fascinating world of grammar theories. He shares his expertise with our beginner students in evening and weekend classes, helping them build a solid foundation in Norwegian.
David is known within our team for his responsibility and motivation, inspiring confidence in his colleagues. He blends academic knowledge with practical teaching, perfectly embodying the spirit of Speak Norsk.
Yvonne is a graduate of the University of Agder and holds a Bachelor’s degree in translation and intercultural communication, along with a Master’s degree in linguistics.
With over six years of dedicated language studies, with a special focus on Norwegian and English, Yvonne has developed her skills in communication and cross-cultural interactions. Her journey led her to Speak Norsk, where she now helps students from all over the world.
Ingrid’s passion for teaching shines through in her excitement to share her Norwegian skills with her students. Her love for languages and curiosity about different cultures drive her to create a welcoming and global classroom atmosphere.
She fosters an inclusive and comfortable environment where learners feel empowered to see mistakes as valuable opportunities for growth.

Meet Jonah, a dedicated educator who brings her love for history and language to the classroom! Currently pursuing a master’s degree in history at the University of Oslo, she’s also diving into Practical-Pedagogical Education (PPU) to sharpen her teaching skills even further.
With over two years of experience as a language teacher at Speak Norsk, Jonah has had the pleasure of working with students at all levels, from A1 to B2. Her passion for student growth and development really shines through in her lessons, making learning not only informative but also fun and engaging.
Jesper graduated from the University of South-Eastern Norway with a degree in teaching education and is currently working towards his master’s in the same field at Oslo Metropolitan University. Throughout his studies, he has focused on Norwegian language acquisition, understanding how crucial language is for successfully integrating into Norwegian society.
In our classrooms in Oslo, Jesper shares his passion and expertise with beginner and intermediate students, as well as offering private tutoring for those outside our classrooms in Oslo. His dedication and teaching skills help create a supportive environment where students can effectively learn the language and embrace the culture.
Emma is currently working towards her lecturer degree in cultural and social studies at the University of Oslo, perfectly complementing her passion for teaching Norwegian.
With a solid background in language structure, grammar, and phonetics, Emma brings a wealth of knowledge to her classes. Since autumn 2022, she has gained valuable hands-on experience working in several Norwegian schools in Oslo.
Her dedication to language education goes beyond the classroom. With a bachelor’s degree in social anthropology, Emma offers a unique perspective on different cultures.
Focused on creating an engaging learning environment, she aims to inspire her students to develop a deep appreciation for the Norwegian language, whether they’re just starting out or advancing their skills.
We’re thrilled to introduce Camilla, a passionate teacher for beginner levels, private turoring and content creator with background in PR and communication. She studied at Høyskolen Kristiania and even interned at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo.
She’s no stranger to our team, having previously worked with us as a teacher during the beginning of Speak Norsk, back in 2019.

With over a decade of experience, Eigil has spent the last ten years immersed in adult education, focusing on visual arts through evening and weekend courses. He consistently receives outstanding feedback from his students, thanks to his teaching philosophy, which emphasizes structure, creativity, patience, and a deep commitment to learning.
Eigil’s strong grasp of Norwegian grammar is enhanced by his fluency in French and Portuguese. His personal journey of mastering new languages gives him valuable insights that help guide his students through the complexities of language acquisition.
Eigil also offers private lessons, tailoring his approach to meet individual student needs. In addition, he previously organized weekly language cafés, creating a welcoming space for expats to practice their Norwegian and expand their vocabulary.
Meet Julia, a passionate language enthusiast who has turned her love for languages into a rewarding career as a Norwegian language teacher! She is currently pursuing a Practical Pedagogical Education degree at NTNU, focusing on Norwegian as a second language.
Fluent in five languages herself, Julia knows first-hand the nuances of language learning and the joy it can bring. Julia has previously taught English, Swedish, and Norwegian, and her diverse language experience has sharpened her adaptability, creativity, and ability to connect with students from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Meet Yelena, a passionate Norwegian teacher at Speak Norsk since 2022! She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nordic Languages, Literature, and Culture from Sorbonne University in Paris as well as a Master’s degree in Nordic Linguistics from University of Oslo.
Yelena teaches beginner and intermediate level classes in the daytime and evenings and is known for her engaging teaching style that makes learning enjoyable. She loves creating a supportive and welcoming environment where her students can thrive and feel confident in their language journey.
Gaute Johnson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from the University of Oslo (2018-2021). Since joining Speak Norsk in 2020, he has gained extensive experience teaching intermediate and advanced students, specializing in B1-C1 levels. Gaute has also conducted corporate courses for Radiumhospitalet and provided private tutoring to numerous students.
Zoé brings both international perspective and solid pedagogical training to her teaching at Speak Norsk. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies and Humanities from Paris and a Master’s degree in Pedagogy from the University of Oslo (UiO), where she also coordinated the Språkkafé program assisting international students in learning Norwegian.
Before joining Speak Norsk, Zoé worked as a teacher assistant at the French School in Oslo, where she developed a passion for helping students build confidence through language. She is currently pursuing a one-year program in Psychology, deepening her understanding of motivation and learning behavior.
Zoé teaches both classroom and virtual courses, and is available for evening and weekend classes.
Marte is a teacher in training at the University of Oslo (5th year of the integrated Master’s program) and has completed her professional pedagogy courses, qualifying her as an adjunct teacher with teaching competence in both Norwegian and English.
She brings solid classroom experience from her work as a teacher at Oslo’s Summer School, substitute teacher at Nydalen Upper Secondary School, and Ris Lower Secondary School, where she has planned and led lessons, managed classrooms, and adapted teaching to different levels.
Ingrid is known for crystal-clear grammar explanations and calm, structured lessons that help beginners and intermediates build confidence quickly. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Anthropology (UiO) with top marks and a Bachelor’s in Gender Studies with culture studies, including an exchange year in Peru—experience that shines through in her inclusive, culturally aware teaching style.
She has supported students in academic settings as a learning assistant and school presenter at the University of Oslo, where she prepared workshops, guided new students, and provided written feedback—training that translates directly into precise correction and step-by-step guidance in Norwegian classes.
Sung is an experienced Norwegian teacher with a strong academic background in pedagogy and extensive experience working with learners of different ages and levels. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy and is currently completing a Master’s degree in Pedagogy at the University of South-Eastern Norway.
She teaches all levels of Norwegian in both classroom and virtual settings, and also offers private lessons tailored to individual goals and learning styles.
In addition to her work as a Norwegian teacher, Sung has broad experience from schools, kindergartens, and educational support roles, including work as a substitute teacher in primary school. This has strengthened her classroom management skills and her ability to create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
Mads has taught 900+ individual online lessons and also teaches regularly in our classrooms. He works closely with adult learners at different levels, tailoring each lesson to the student’s goals, pace, and learning style.
He has extensive experience in planning and delivering complete semester courses, including developing teaching materials and structuring clear and effective progression. As a former course coordinator at NMBU (Norwegian University of Life Sciences), Mads was responsible for designing and teaching structured Norwegian courses at university level.
Mads currently teaches classroom courses, virtual classes, and private lessons, across all levels.
